Description:
kgbweb is a distinct, small and agile team that functions as an incubated start-up funded by a larger organization. What are we working on? It’s kind of a secret (we're currently in the R&D phase) but I can tell you that it’s focused on completely changing the way we find, consume, share, and manage content on the web today. We are focused on 2 main points: (1) the growing importance of the real-time web and the concurrent need to reduce the noise, (2) a strong desire to deliver a better overall experience with a lot less effort required from our users.
Our office is extremely open and collegiate, and we are committed to letting ideas thrive above all else. We’re a very eclectic bunch of characters, but we all share a common commitment to taking whatever we do, fun or work, to the max. Some words that have been used to describe us are: passionate, fun, funny, innovative, contrarian, automagical, brilliant, academic, whimsical, and most importantly respectful. If you fit 3 or more of those descriptions, you might just have some of that magic we’re looking for.
As a Web Developer, you will be on the front lines of designing and building a fantastic experience for our end users. You will be instrumental in changing the way these users consume information on the web, therefore you must have strong experience in foundational web technologies such as XHTML, CSS and Javascript (including javascript libraries such as jQuery). Additionally, you should have a strong understanding of and experience with various backend web frameworks, as you will have ownership of application services written in Ruby on Rails and/or straight Ruby that utilize our rich set of internal web services.
Our team is a tight group of top performers and you will work intimately with the CTO and fellow developers as well as our burgeoning design group. All foundational members must be strong individual contributors and hard-core builders. If you’re looking to change the landscape of the internet, then this is a great opportunity for you!
Responsibilities:
* Work closely with design team to build a unique experience for consuming information
* Use internal RESTful web services to create end-user functionality and work closely with fellow developers to extend as necessary
* Tap into external APIs to leverage existing technology from third parties (specifically Facebook and Twitter; the more the merrier)
* Develop and operate application level functionality written in Ruby on Rails
* Utilize agile methodology, but work independently as needed
* Own task identification, work estimates, feature requirements and schedules for development related activities
Experience Guidelines (some of this should apply to you):
* Create and maintained cross-browser compatible javascript and css
* Developed unique web interfaces for displaying large quantities of ever-changing data using ajax paradigm
* Delivered one or more consumer facing products individually or as part of a team
* Utilized one or more javascript libraries (jQuery, prototype/scriptaculous, YUI, etc), and be proficient enough to understand their inner workings
* Have a degree in computer science or human computer interaction or equivalent
* Have comfortably used Mac OSX and git in a development environment
* Have comfortably used Linux in a production environment
We would be very happy if you:
* Know Ruby and Ruby on Rails
* Have experience with Amazon web services and cloud computing
* Work comfortably in a fast-paced start-up environment
* Work comfortably on multiple projects simultaneously
Join the team that's transforming the way the world will watch and interact with TV by Pointing and Clicking!
Backchannelmedia’s TV click-through to the Internet solution merges the direct marketing, Internet advertising and TV advertising industries into one platform driven by actual television viewer response results. It allows TV advertisers, broadcasters and other TV content distributors such as cable and satellite operators to measure viewer engagement using the power of the Internet in real time. This is accomplished by inserting bookmarkable elements into commercial spots and in-programming and providing the viewer with the ability to forward them to a customizable portal on the Internet. From that portal, the TV viewer can be directly linked from TV to a deeper branded experience on the Internet.

These are very exciting projects which will involve both the usual web 2.0 features as well as new features not yet present in any site. You should be very experienced in building highly scale-able, database-driven websites, and ideally know a CMS quite well.
You'll lead a small team of developers in India in development of these sites. We haven't fixed the location of our development office in India, but it will be in a major city such as Bangalore or Delhi or Hyderabad.
You should be independently motivated, articulate, able to work under deadlines/time pressueres, and able to mentor junior team members.

Playlouder are building an innovative music service from the ground up. To give you an idea, think ISP meets music community meets all-you-can-eat DRM-free download service. We aim to change the way consumers discover and download music online, and have the funding and the music industry relationships to pull this off.
The role - we have a small, talented team which we're looking to augment with a second full-time web developer. You'll be working alongside our existing development lead, sysadmin and UI designers on all aspects of our service, from wholesale ADSL to music discovery and download tools, community features and more.
We love Ruby, and the service is being implemented from the start with Rails as our web development platform of choice.
We can offer a competitive salary, laid-back work environment in London's east end, and the chance to play with interesting music-related technologies.
SKILLS
Most important is that you're a smart, creative all-rounder with good comp-sci skills, solid web development experience and flexibility in picking up new things.
Particularly useful, though, are:
- Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable Model-View-Controller web development platform
- Source control with SVN or similar
- Relational database skills - MySQL or Postgres in particular.
- Unix command-line skills and some knowledge of broader networking concepts
While not all essential, we'd also like to see some of these:
- Agile / iterative development methodologies in a small team
- Good object-oriented design and data modelling skills; refactoring; a sense of aesthetics about code
- Javascript skills (AJAX, DHTML, Prototype/Scriptaculous in particular)
- Keen on usable user interface design and its role in the development process
- Experience at a small company / start-up
- An interest in music
- Any other languages or frameworks a plus (Python, C, Perl, ObjC/Cocoa, Actionscript may be useful; Scheme or Haskell will impress us!)
- Any ISP or telco experience would be useful to us, although is by no means essential - the position offers good opportunities to learn about ADSL and the workings of an ISP if you're interested.
At cabedge, we stress design as an overall communications strategy. The sites we build are much more than pretty pictures. They're tools that help people find information, share wisdom, and buy stuff. A pretty project is nothing unless someone can quickly and easily find the information they're looking for.
We're looking for web development professionals who agree with that philosophy, have a good working knowledge of UNIX, RDBMS, and SCM. (Bonus points for Debian, MySQL, and Subversion experience.) Ruby experience preferred.
Ability to work well with others is a must. We're serious about our work, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.
Check us out at http://www.cabedge.com/
If you think you're a good fit, send a message to iwannawork@cabedge.com.
Serious inquiries only please, for those willing and able to work with us on a full-time basis on location.
