<description>Job Description: 

The Database Engineer, Appliances will work to design, specify, and develop applications running on our AsyncOS appliance platform that have a substantial database component. IronPort's mail appliance is a high-performance gateway for inbound and outbound mail transfer and management and relies on relational, object, and other databases.

Primary Responsibilities: 

This will involve writing database access code and designing practical schemas. 
Responsibilities will include determining how databases are configured, started, and reliably managed in an appliance environment. 
The ideal candidate will also have a messaging background and a firm understanding of systems and network programming. 
Minimum Experience Requirements: 

4+ years developing database-backed application development. 
8+ years software development and engineering experience 
3+ years of development in a Unix environment. 
Experience installing and managing relational databases. 
Handling of large data volumes. 
Documenting designs and implementations through specs, manuals, and procedures. 
Past participation in shipping releases on an aggressive schedule. 
Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact with all members of the development team. 
Unix system administration experience. 
Desirable Experience: 

Python and C. 
Sybase, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL. 
Clustering, partitioning, failsafe operations. 
OLAP and OLTP 
Internationalized databases 
Performing data reduction through summarization and warehousing. 
Real-time and multi-threaded environments. 
A background in both product and service offerings. 
Open-source mail, spam detection programs, and integration of database technology to customer systems.
