Developer

We are a design company working in London (http://www.moreassociates.com). Most of our work is in the sustainable sector and is very varied, ranging from custom installations to interaction design and web development. We are looking for talented, driven and, above all, creative developers who would be involved from the very start of a new project and would help shape the architecture and direction it will take, working with other developers and designers to create a world-class, world-changing web application. A high level of expertise in Python (specifically Zope / Plone) is essential and the ability to code well on the client-side is also needed (XHTML, CSS, Javascript / DOM / AJAX). Being able to work in a team is also a must.

We have a full-time position becoming available and we feel that it is important that the person who fills this role is based in the office because we value the team dynamic this allows - we are not interested in hiring a freelancer or a telecommuter at this point - if you're not London based you'll need to be willing to commute.

Development Team Leader

Developer Team Leader required to head up a small (currently 6 person) development team.

You will have experience of working as a developer using an Agile methodology. You will be comfortable with all aspects of a development role: from finding out sponsors' requirements to deploying working solutions in a production environment. You will have strong development skills and not be phased by new technologies. We primarily use Ruby on Rails. If you don't already know this then you will be bright enough to pick it up quickly.

You will already have leadership skills. Ideally you will already have worked as a development team leader, or perhaps you feel you're ready to step up to an official leadership role and are looking for the right opportunity. You will understand how to motivate and inspire people, how to prioritise work, how to liaise with other teams and third parties, and how to ensure that deadlines are met.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast growing company and become a key part of our future. We retain a small company ethos and atmosphere and we are always looking to the future for new ways to improve our development methodologies.

perl OR python OR ruby AND XML AND database AND job

Hello,

I'm not a fortune 500 company and I can't offer you a corner office overlooking the city. I'm just a regular guy with a website that sells stuff and we've outgrown the off-the-shelf shopping cart we've been using.

What I can offer is a contract job that should take you about 6-8 weeks to do and I was going to pay around $6-7K for it. If that seems to be too low, we can talk about it. You can work anywhere. You can work in your underwear.

All I care about is that you are proficient at perl, ruby or python and XML, PostgresSQL, MySQL or other database, that you can show me other ecommerce sites you've developed, provide references and can communicate in English well. Oh yea, you have to be honest, trustworthy and commit to finishing what you start. :) I'm just looking for that one special person that has a passion for solving problems with code.

This is a fairly extensive job and it's not for the first timer, nor the second timer. In fact, it's for someone who's done a good bit of programming, is a security fanatic, likes to work on interesting jobs, and enjoys working with someone who likes to do things right. I think you'll find the task challenging, rewarding and you will most certainly be a better programmer because of it.

Future contract jobs will also be possible, and I'm make one heck of a reference for you.

Please send an email to:
disposable1@trueblueoval.com

and please put 'perl/python/ruby/XML/database job' in the subj. line and I'll reply with a long description of what needs to be done with a couple of templates to illustrate it.

PostgreSQL/Python Hacker

We're building one of the great wonders of the Web, the kind of public works project -- like Wikipedia or web.archive.org or IMDb -- that becomes a touchstone for Web users. And from day one, we've got a database with hundreds of millions of rows. Luckily, we've also got a sysadmin team that thinks in terms of petabytes, so we'll have plenty of machines to distribute things across.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience keeping PostgreSQL up and tuned, know how to tweak table schemas for best performance, and have experience doing master-slave replication (e.g. with slony).

Plus, you'll have experience doing distributed processing and calling PostgreSQL from the Python world, so you can build an API that intelligently distributes requests across machines (we're currently planning to use a partitioned SQL model, where each machine only stores one portion of the database) and caches the results.

We're a nonprofit, so we can't pay quite as well as some big valley companies, but we make up for it by having a really thrilling project, the satisfaction of knowing you're doing something important, and the freedom to have all your code released as free/open source software. And we're flexible about where you work from (we're in San Francisco).

If you're interested, email databaser@aaronsw.com with what you've done.

Python / Django Consultant Needed

Contextual Corporation focuses on open source content management solutions, but some client projects need a purely custom solution built by a solid framework.

That is the case with one of our clients in the Chicago west suburbs. This is a position with a highly reputable research organization that sees the light when it comes to leveraging open source and specifically Python and Django.

They've begun some work already with Django and are looking to add to their team for a 2-3 month engagement that, if history repeats, could extend beyond that duration.

We need to assume that the work needs to be done on-site, but some of our other developers have been allowed to work remotely, once demonstrating their proficiency and learning to work well with the team and environment.

The client prefers 3+ years of experience and experience with a web development framework that does the typical MVC thing and makes developers more productive, but if you also have Django experience, that will help close the deal.

You'll work in this position as a sub-contractor or 1099 and will need to have U.S. Citizenship (it's a government-funded project.)

Solid experience with relational databases is also preferred (such as Oracle and/or Postgres.)

Your hourly rate would be $55-60/hour and no additional expenses are expected to be reimbursed, since all travel will be local to the Chicago area.

Apprentice Python Charmer
In our quest to develop the world’s most dangerous team of snake handlers, Akoha is seeking an Apprentice Python Charmer to join our team.
We’re one of Montreal’s most innovative startups with top web, game, graphic, and user-interface designers working in secret on a new web community. Our project is going to change the way people think about social networks and online entertainment. We believe in creating mind-blowing web software that has a positive impact on the world. Plus we believe in avoiding meetings as much as possible, iterating quickly, and having fun at work.
Our existing team can cripple a venomous python using nothing but a keyboard. Due to rising economic and environmental costs, we’re now looking for a junior programmer who can help us tame venomous code without contributing to a global keyboard shortage.
•	Do you enjoy coaxing creative solutions from Python’s vocabulary?
•	Can you wrestle un-cooperative code to the ground through incredible feats of programming that cause your peers to drop their jaws in amazement?
•	Do you want to be doing meaningful work on a small team on a really cool project?
•	Are you dreaming of a great job where anything is possible?
•	…and everything you do has an impact on the company?
If you answered “yes” to all these questions, apply now!
You can:
•	Demonstrate your love of the Python language.
•	Believe that the Web is a thriving platform for real applications.
•	Create passionate users.
•	Communicate your opinions clearly and thoughtfully with your teammates.
•	Write well and speak fluently in either French or English.
•	Be professional and creative — even at the same time.
•	Get things done!
Bonus points for:
•	Experience with web frameworks, especially Django.
•	Showing us some web application design that you’ve done.
•	Interest in early stage technology startup culture.
Warning for potential applicants:
•	Our pythons don’t charm easy. Practical experience is a must. Before being considered for the position, we’ll throw you in the deep end. You’ll have to wow us with your design, coding and communications skills.
•	Keyboards will be provided.
Interested candidates should contact us at apprenticepythoncharmer @ akoha.org with a résumé and portfolio.

Python Programmer

One of the most respected and award-winning newspaper Web teams in the world has moved to Florida and is looking for an experienced server-side Web developer.
NDN Productions — the online and new media publishing division of the Naples Daily News — is looking for a full-time web developer to develop Internet-based applications that cross from computers to mobile phones to iPods to Sony PSPs.
We strive for innovation and nimble development for sites that embrace relational databases in ways they’ve rarely been used on the local level coupled with broadband-centric multimedia content that all works together in a platform-independent manner.
In other words, we strive to build the kinds of Web sites and related offshoots that you wish were in your hometown.
We’re big believers and contributors to the open-source community. Our primary development platform is Python (mod_python) and PostgreSQL, with a particular emphasis on using the Django infrastructure.
That being said, we believe a solid background in Web application design is more important than knowledge of a particular language or platform. If you’re a smart cookie and it shows, we know that you’ll have no problems picking up the tools we use.
We embrace a highly creative, non-traditional work environment. We love to work fast and have fun, with the time between having a great idea and that idea being added to one of our sites being measured in days, if not hours.
Our salary is competitive, though not crazy huge, and our benefits package is sweet.
And because our agile and autonomous online team works under the umbrella of one of the largest and most stable diversified media companies in the nation, you don’t have to worry about your checks ever bouncing. If you work with us, your mom and dad will be proud, and your friends will be envious.
So, if you learn things quickly, want to hang out with cool people and build amazing Web content, than this is the place for you.

Python/Django Jobs at WeFi

About Me

I'm Pablos, and I'm looking for coders for my team. You will talk to me about this job, not a recruiter. If this doesn't sound like the job for you, please introduce me to the most stellar coders you've ever worked with. Email me directly: pablos@wefi.com.

About Us

Who really cares about Enterprise B2B Solutions crap? Come help us build something actual people can use. We are a startup getting close to launching the first version of our product which makes using Wi-Fi a lot easier and more useful. We are based in the Bay Area with an R+D team in Tel Aviv. We are starting a new web development group in the U.S. and need some stellar talent. Our front end stuff is written in Python using Django.

About You

This will be a small team, and each member will have to be very experienced with building and deploying web applications. You’ve written other software, but mostly web apps, probably with Java. You wish your garbage collector would free PHP once and for all. You’ve checked out Rails or Django and have maybe even used one of them for a project or two. The idea of building entirely new apps from scratch in a very “agile” fashion sounds delightful.

MySQL, Python, Django, Linux, + Subversion fu.
AJAX, HTML, CSS, XML, REST, SOAP, ABCs, 123s, 000110, F=MA

This is a job for someone who is highly capable of taking a project and running with it. You need to be able to handle the full life cycle of an application. You will need great communication skills, self motivation, and a burning desire to ship code.

Location

West Coast, but we’re flexible.
